PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Sarasota based and civically active band,  ESD (Elysian Sex Drive) is hosting a CD release/benefit event intended to raise public awareness and funding for SCOPE, a Sarasota Community Outreach organization. ESD is celebrating the release of their much anticipated full length album, " A Note to the Alchemist," in so doing, the band wanted to give back to Sarasota's community. Assimilating the CD release with a benefit for SCOPE, an organization who does so much for the community through their diversified programs, seemed the best and most far reaching way for ESD to say THANK YOU -to give back to the community who has so lovingly supported us for so many years.

The event will be held Saturday, May 3rd from 7-10pm at the Mack B Gallery, located at 500 Tallevast Rd, in Sarasota, featuring the music of ESD, special guest entertainers, food and adult beverages. Admission is $15 and includes a signed CD from the band. ALL PROCEEDS from admission go to SCOPE.

ABOUT SCOPE:

A Voice in Our Community
SCOPE’s mission is to connect and inspire citizens to create a better community. SCOPE is at the center of citizen action in Sarasota. Founded in 2001, SCOPE provides opportunities where all citizens’ voices are welcomed and heard. SCOPE invites residents, business owners, organizations and government to come together to listen, to learn and to discuss the issues that impact the quality of life in their community.

SCOPE engages the community in a variety of ways including: focused study groups, structured conversations, workshops, community data reports and forums. SCOPE directs community discussion to possibilities, not problems. By shifting to possibilities, residents are free to innovate and create new solutions and take action to improve the quality of life in Sarasota.

Each year SCOPE reports data and trends that tell the story of our quality of life through the Community Report Card (CRC). The Community Report Card helps us understand the facts and figures which add context to our discussions and help us ask the right questions to make Sarasota County an even better place.

A Catalyst for Change
Thousands of people participate in SCOPE study groups, forums and committees. These initiatives have sparked community decisions that make a difference every day in the lives of the people in Sarasota County. SCOPE initiatives have led to:
Community Housing Trust formed in 2005 to create a supply of permanently affordable housing for low and moderate income residents. (Affordable Housing 2002)

Over 200 law enforcement officers trained to respond appropriately to people having a mental health crisis. (Mental Health 2003)

The Family Violence Task Force brings together domestic violence shelters, the police and other community partners, to eliminate gaps in the service systems surrounding Family Violence. (Family Violence 2004)

Emerging leaders develop their personal leadership capacity and connections to decision makers in the community. (Two classes have completed the year-long Grassroots Leadership Initiative created by SCOPE, the Herald-Tribune, the United Way, USF Sarasota-Manatee, and The Community Foundation of Sarasota County)

Public officials increased the efficiency of existing roadways by funding the Advanced Traffic Management System, a comprehensive real-time approach to managing traffic intersections and traffic flow. (Traffic Flow & Congestion 2002)

SCOPE has helped inspire citizens to take an active role in community matters. Citizens have acted to:

Write over 200 letters in response to hate crimes
Lead diversity awareness workshops
Initiate “Unity Days” in local schools
Expand volunteer caregiver respite programs
