Known for spirited melodies and tribal vision, Elysian Sex Drive (ESD) has been a fixture in the local music scene from Sarasota to Tampa Bay since 1993. ESD’s music is all original rock with a timeless message and a sound that varies from song to song – self described as “funk-a-licious.” With a very loyal following, DeLaran has had the opportunity to bring her universal message to many devoted fans along with new fans being introduced to this progressive sound and message.
Lead singer, songwriter, and lead guitarist, DeLaran, along with Evan Katz on bass are the only two original band members still performing together at every gig. Special guest performers fill in with percussion and keyboard keeping a fresh approach to the ESD sound. Despite the lineup changes over the years, ESD has held fast to its original vision – to start a “spiritual revolution” through song, evidenced by its most recent release, “The Journey,” in December 2016. “Simple Words,” from “The Journey” album, was inspired by a dear friend who DeLaran talked through a long dark night and who saw the path to hope by dawn.
“It’s hard to explain our sound,” DeLaran told Nick Friedman Managing Editor of Arts and Culture for the Observer in 2014. “Our music follows the contours of life–its intricacies and subtleties…its ever changing ebbs and flows – the aria highs and abysmal lows. People have told us how our music has had a serious impact on their lives, and that’s what we hope for — to contribute as much as possible to a peaceful world.”
DeLaran is a performer that puts every ounce of herself into every song. She hosts open mic nights at various locations in St Pete, Florida in addition to performing with her band, Elysian Sex Drive. DeLaran is dedicated to building community and building up others. She can often be found at the heart of festivals and events that support the common good. DeLaran’s music is brash and bold while blending picture-painting lyrics and pure heart – a sheer pleasure to listen to!
